Up-close and personal with Kgomotso QualiBeatZ Owen

Sun, March 2016

It is always a gesture to sit down and conduct a face to face interview, you feel like the information that you get will be extra correct because it involves emotions. But this has to be one of the smoothest interviews done telephonically. QualiBeatZ (21 years old) humbles himself and he is always down to earth. This man escaped from a fascinating life of materialism and the world influences by following a physic path of Christianity. If you followed Kgomotso on his social media, you will realize his focus on Christ.

But that doesn’t take away the talent he have in producing, he started from a young age using software called fruity loops. It is always hard to believe when a man his age takes so much responsibility and still able to offer his peers with entertainment. Indeed the passion of Quali makes the world a better place to be.

I asked him to prepare a snippets for me, going through his production gave me that sense of perfectionists, so ethereal I stood there with the back of my brains twisted. His instruments are just too good.

This is the interview, I provided him with a questionnaire that consists of 20 questions that are imperative and always wanted to be known by his fans.

Interview 7 march 2016

1.

   Who is QualiBeatZ

1. Quali is a beat maker and producer but these titles limit me, so I'd like to be known as a musician than that, a musical addict, because I'm broad.

QualiBeatZ? If you had to sell a beat to rick Ross without a snippet? Just with a vocal conversation, what will be the words used by you to encourage him to purchase your work?

2. Started when i met a guy who deejays. Me and motex would go there to record tracks, then i grab the steps and the program our producer was using, send 2012 my dad bought me a PC. That when everything started, i became the main hip hop producer around, I'd record and make beats for a lot of people and would want to meet me, but haha it's funny cause they always see this young dude.
And people would want to meet

Concisely, can you share how you became a producer and the journey traveled so far?

3. A lot of stuff, firstly from a rural area where a lot is limited. A place where you make your own gigs, a place everyone is not ready to pay you for your art. But now its a bit of an upgrade since I'm in varsity, i get to sell beats to talented people. Its all about hustle, the only problem for now its stingy artist who never invest in their work. Its a pity because producers don't make beats on a note book with a pen. But otherwise its all about ignoring the hardships and confronting relevant people.

Being underground artist is everybody’s foundation, but what are critical challenges that you have met so far being exposed by the state of scarcity of resources and backgrounds of your life?

4. (laughs) a lot know me by Quali McFrisco, even if you google that you'll find my songs there. But i just removed the McFrisco and put beats as part of marketing. What would i say? (laughs) i don't have words to describe my work so i guess I'd miss my chance without a snippet.

You are a singer; can your fans expect any project from you?

5. Yes, more music coming up. I'm currently working on a various projects with different people. And also solo stuff coming up.

Personally¸ how do you rate South African hip hop?

6. South African hip hop its on a beautiful state but my advice to artists is, be yourself.

Who support you most from your family and on what level would you appreciate their concern?

7. I'd like to say my mother and brother Lucca but its my boy Prince Phi-troy. Every time i sit on the producer chair he's by my side complementing me, and he the only one i would brag to, when that 808 goes in we would scream and stuff.
The level of love they show and supports is enough, they cant do more, i even feel that  I'm the one who should act up.

How can you advice other upcoming producers who would like to improve their work?

8. To be themselves also, listen to every genre of music.

Give us 5 names of the people in the industry that you would love to work with, and give us 5 names of people you wouldn’t bother working with?

9.
- Reason
- Kwesta
- Lwansta
- Nasty C
- Areece
Artists i wouldn't work with will be.

- Okmalumkoolkat
- Okmalumkoolkat
- Okmalumkoolkat

Explain the relationship between you and Broadway Liddingz? The vision and the mission you had shared together?  be the history or moment of passion

10. It's some personal stuff right there, because i come far with the team. There's not only business partnership involved but also friendship, and we aim on taking over the game and bringing good music to our place. Even through distance its a problem but we musically growing.

You rather win an Oscar or Grammy?

11. Definitely a Grammy.

After marking your spot in the industry, what is it that you gonna change in your nation?

12. Launching of NGO's and personally pay for study fees for under privileged. To eradicate poverty.

If your bedroom caught a fire, with your mom’s belongings and your studio kit. What will you save first?

13. My equipment, im obviously gon sell a coupla beats and buy her new clothes.

How is varsity life to you, how can you inspire other person reading this to pursue their educational path?

14. Varsity is great, im now advanced in business knowledge its preparing me for the future you know. Everyone has to have an education because these days not having a simple thing like matric its like you don't know nothing to people's eyes.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

15. I see Owen, ventured a successful business and i see QualiBeatz producing sense music for, famous
 artist/great artists.

Would you love to get married one day? Explain what kind of family you visualize?

16. (LAUGHS) obviously yeah, nothing beats a family of piece, love and having each others backs

Music industry grows everyday, innovation of new technology and new techno equipment upgrades in the market makes completion even tighter, how do you stay consistent in this game?

17. By buying new staff, learning new software's etc.

If you ever host a homecoming festival that celebrates your success, how can you define its theme and content?

18. (LAUGHS) never thought that far, but i would use it to raise funds to upgrade my community. A lot of good music must play.

You would rather get signed or build your own company?

19. Build my own thing, because you know, every company has it's own identity. So i don't want to be caught up in someone Else's view of music.

In conclusion pour your heart out and explain the basics in producing. The life qualibeatz would love to live and the direction you heading to?

20. Well producing is the foundation of music, its about being creative. I compare it to drawing/scratching, you think of something in your head and put it down, then you go with the flow. I would like to live the life of abundance, freedom. And far is where im heading. Amen 😄
